Free Orchestral Concert at Filips Kirke — 70 Musicians Take the Stage
Copenhagen, 1 May 2026
Filips Kirke in Copenhagen is opening its doors for a free symphony concert featuring the Utrecht Student Orchestra — one of the oldest student orchestras in the Netherlands — bringing no fewer than 70 musicians to the church on Thursday, 1 May at 20:00.
The ensemble, comprising strings, woodwinds, brass and percussion, will perform three richly imaginative orchestral works in what promises to be a colourful and captivating evening.
The programme opens with Paul Dukas’s The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, familiar to many from Walt Disney’s animated classic featuring Mickey Mouse as the hapless apprentice who sets the brooms to fetch water — but cannot make them stop. Next comes Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade, inspired by One Thousand and One Nights, in which a condemned princess must spin an endless tale to keep the sultan — and death — at bay. The evening concludes with Tchaikovsky’s Shakespeare-inspired tone poem The Tempest, a dramatic sweep of high seas, romance and exotic colour.
The Utrecht Student Orchestra has performed across much of the world, and Copenhagen audiences can experience the ensemble entirely free of charge at Filips Kirke.
